I am researching my great great grandfather, Joseph MARTIN born in West Bromwich c.1831.
I think his parents were probably Joseph and Ann MARTIN because of an entry on the IGI showing his christening at All Saints, West Bromwich on the 31st of July 1831.
If anyone is connected to him or researching the MARTIN family in the area please get in touch.

Hi,
I'm researching the family of a Joseph MARTIN of West Bromwich and his wife Elizabeth (I don't know her maiden name). They had 7 children, Frederick (c.1840-1856), Ann, Thomas (c.1842-1908), Joseph, Samuel, Henry (1852-1907), Mary. Henry Martin (my great grandfather) married Elizabeth Broadbent on the 20th May 1872 at Trinity Church, West Bromwich. He was a smith by trade according to the certificate.
According to the Censuses Henry Martin lived at:

54 Hargate Lane, West Bromwich (1861)
Hill Top, West Bromwich (1871)
28 Witton Lane, West Bromwich (1881)
2 Butt Street, West Bromwich (1891)
Spring Head (1901)

Henry and Elizabeth had 3 children, Martha, Mary, and Joseph Thomas. My grandfather, Joseph Thomas Martin was an Estate Agent and Insurance Broker and lived at 11 Holden Road, Wednesbury prior to 1920. He married Elizabeth BURT in 1903. THe family moved to Middlesbrough and later Leicester

Mark,

Have you obtained your gg grandfather's marriage certificate which should give you his father's name and profession. I think you need to do this because on looking on the 1841 census there are 3 Joseph MARTINs all born c1831/2 in West Bromwich including the one born to Joseph & Ann. Until you know definitely which is your Joseph, you could spend a lot of time and effort researching wrong lines.
