We've had a brief discussion on the subject on the General Irish Forum, is there the possibility of or interest in a forum dedicated to immigration issues? |bowdown|

Anything is possible.... assuming that there is a demand for it.
Did you mean Immigration into Ireland? or the topic in general?
Cheers

Over the years I've seen many, many messages which relate to this subject, with people trying to find out when and where their family moved from one country to another. It's a detailed subject in its own right. I don't know what Colin intends (I think he's mentioned both Italian and Irish family), but perhaps one forum called 'Moving County' might suffice? - this would cover both emigration and immigration.

GeoffersI've found with the Anglo-Italian FHS that the problems relating to finding information about immigration (to the UK) are very poorly understood. But then, so are the difficulties of finding emigration records (from the UK). I assume that Geoffers' "County" above is a typo, one forum for "Moving Country" would be fine by me although I think that I would prefer "Immigration and Emigration". I don't count Ireland as abroad since it was part of (what, Great Britain or the UK? my Irish history is not good enough) before independence which is the time that most of us as family historians are interested in, and no formalities were involved. Besides which, the Irish have their own forum already.

I think Immigration and Emigration would be a preferable title !! This could cover both moving COUNTRY and moving COUNTY, ( perhaps a typo , with a thought behind it Geoff :-) )
Different types of queries will naturally create sub - forums !
On some of the Lists, to which I am subscribed ,there has been much discussion recently, of why people moved e.g. fron Devon to Staffordshire - from Staffordshire to Derbyshire etc.etc. Not necessarily to take up a job requiring the same skills e.g. Potteries ! or because of the decline in the Agriculture economy.
But the emigration country to country , possibly has the most effect on researchers 'brick walls' They know they emigrated but where ! Also there is the helpful tree in the Family Bible which says e.g. Samuel went to New Zealand , or emigrated very informative ( Have two instances in our family ) - both have since been solved.
off the cuff
