Isabella Pape is found on the 1871 census in Workington, visiting her sister Mary Ann McCoid (nee Whitfield).
She was born 1847 in Seaton, Workington.
Isabella Whitfield married Roger Pape in Cockermouth in 1869, he died in 1870.
I cannot find an Isabella Pape on the 1881 Census, despite exhaustive searching and cross referencing to Free BMD for a possible marriage.
Does anyone recognise an Isabella Pape marrying into their family ?

Pauline,
I can't help you directly on this one, but I have a Pape, or think I do (I'm still trying to confirm all the details) in my tree: Luna Pape, born about 1814. I'm not too sure about the first name (handwriting and Ancestry index are both vague!), married (I think) George Luke Clarke from Winscales, child George Clarke (maybe without the "e") born c1854 in Workington, who married Jane COID, born about 1857 in Harrington. Jane is the daughter of John COID and Martha Dockeray, ands sister of Maria, my great-grand mother.
Any help? You can see more details on my website (click on the link in my signature) if you want.

Pauline,
Do you know where Isabella and Roger were living when he died in 1870?
It may be that she is still at the same address in 1881 but "hiding" under a misspelled/mistranscribed name. Or maybe she's living with her sister -- but I'm sure you've checked out that possibility by now.

Thanks for your message. I am awaiting the death certificate for Isabella's husband which might give a clue - even though we are talking about 10 years or so later. Yes, I did check with her sister but she is not there !

John
Thanks for your message. Unfortunately I know very little about Isabella's husband Roger Pape (I need to find out more) and am sorry I don't for the moment recognise the Pape names you mention.
When I do some further checking I will have a look back at your names.
Kind regards, Pauline

Pauline,
no problem. This is a recent discovery for me, and on my list of things to do. I'll let you know if I discover anything.

Have now received the death certificate for Roger Pape who Isabella Whitfield married in 1869. He died at Bridge Street, Workington age 29 a Seaman MS.
Informant was a Mary Graham.
Looking at the 1871 Bridge Street was the home of his parents Richard Pape born Winscales and Catherine Pape born Workington.
Mary Graham is a widow living next door.
Unfortunately this gives me no clues as to what happened to Isabella.
They were married in 1869 both from Bridge Street, Workington.
