As in potato chips for the oceanically challenged.

I go into a pub.... "A packet of crisps please".

"Crispy bacon, cheese, curry, prawn, salt & vinegar, barbeque, smoked rhinocerous...."
and so on.

"Dammit man... CRISPS!"

I have a theory that the choice of crisps available is the cause of the most stress in the world today.

I object to paying £3 per lb (or whatever it currently works out to) for fried potato, so never buy crisps.

No purchase, no stress. :)

The stress does not even finish when you are presented with whatever exotic flavour they happen to have. They never have plain!!! You still have to fight your way into the things. Worn out teeth do not help and carrying a small penknife around these days could be classed as an offensive weapon. Broken nails later and at the first taste you find they are stale

Grump for the day.

Quite!!
I don't want vinegar, and I don't want salt.

I have been a pen-knife carrier for as long as I remember, (well, at least from the early 50s), but these days it has gone silly! Even the sheeple open their eyes in horror when I get mine out. (The knife that is). Like "why would anyone want to carry a knife?" ... from the people who use big long scary ones every day in the kitchen.

Well over here in Oz Crisps are called chips, if if you actually want chips you have to specify "hot chips".....
and in any case, is there anyone like me that suspects that crisps arent made from potatoes anymore ?

Cheers..Ed

I don't know about that, but I do know that a certain well-known burger bar uses potato in its apple pies instead of apple. It is re-constituted previously freeze-dried pieces of apple-flavoured potato.... which you should be very careful when ordering, becuase the 'hot apple pies' are actually...well, ....hot.

Also, crisps can only be called crisps if they are made with potato... otherwise they are 'snacks' (made form maize, etc).

Are they what? Damn near melted my dentures when I chomped on one of those, purchased for me by my loving young'uns.
