The following post is a follow on from previous posts listed under 'Some Jewish Look ups to be undertaken' Posts 134-158 relating to Henry Levi Glass cutter and his two sons Philip Levi and Morris Levi. These posts further relate to the data listed under 'Louisa Nathan/Foley nee Crawcour 1828-1918' posts on this site. The current data on the various families which include /CrawcourNathan/Foley/Campbell/Levi and others shows the various relationships including marriages of Anglo Jewish individuals to non-Jewish families.
The previous posts have recorded the various primary sources including census, marriage, baptism and other records which confirm the relationships.
In the subsequent posts records will be cited to further confirm the family relationships.
The main individuals in the posts relate to Philip Levi shoe maker and later green grocer son of Henry Levi glass cutter and his son Joseph who married Charlotte Broad and their daughter Ethel Louisa Levi who married Jamieson Knight CAMPBELL.
I will post further records.

The following census records and other data record the Philip Levi abt 1814-1900 family and links through his son Joseph and Joseph's daughter Ethel Louisa Levi to the families referred to in the various postings indicated in the first two postings of this topic.
There are earlier census records which I will cite later but the first two relate to Charlotte Broad who married Joseph Levi in 1872 ( their marriage record has been previously cited).
1871 Census RG10 1327 12 16 ( Crown Copyright,TNA) Kensal Green
Philip Levi H M 57 Greengrocer b Middx Whitechapel
Ann Levi wife 56 b Middx St James
Sarah Levi dau U 21 b Kensal Green
Joseph Levi son 18 b Kensal Green
Alfred Levi son 13 b Kensal Green
Charlotte Broad boader U 18 ( her occupation is difficult to decipher) b Middx Paddington
1 other boarder
The family trees on various websites give a dob for Henry Levi glass cutter and father of Philip and Morris as 1780 and there is no date of death or other details. The source for his dob is not given and there is no census record for him suggesting he died pre 1841 Census. Reference to Henri Levi glass cutter has already been cited in earlier postings with at least one person of that name and trade being ruled out as the father of Philip and Morris.
The approximates dob for Philip 1814 and his brother Morris b abt 1802 suggest there may be other siblings. The wife of Henri Levi is currently unknown.
Further data to follow.

I have just received Morris Levy's death certificate in today's post:
8th May 1875, 1 Spencer St, St George in the East, Morris Levy, Male, 65 years (suggest a different birth year),
Glass Cutter, Sudden Extravasation of blood on the brain.
Certificate received from John Humphreys, Coroner for for Middlesex - inquest held.
Registered 12th May 1875
Is there any way of tracing the details from the inquest?

I looked at the British Newspaper archives site for possible newspaper articles on Morris Levy death but could not see a reference. I am not a specialist in the area of Coroner's Report findings but you might want to look at The City of Westminster site which gives links to Coroner inquest reports as well as the London Metropolitan Archive site and the National Archives. It is my understanding that it was the coroner who decided what records would be retained for archives but I am sure other researchers on BG would advise you further.

I have looked at the Levi names on the London,England Marriages and Banns 1754-1921 records and noted several Levi who were glass cutters. These were the father's of brides/grooms and included Edward Levy glass cutter - his daughter Mary Ann Levy married 1839;1857 Ann Levi-father Abraham Levi glass cutter;1866 Sarah Levi -father Elias Levi glass cutter;1845 John Levi-father William Woolf Levi glass cutter. There may well be others ( I looked briefly) and there may or may not be a connection to the Henry Levi lines but worth keeping options open.

I have seen an entry on the 1821 Waterford Census for 3 Mary St -Henry LEVI glass cutter and family. Unfortunately, this site gives no further details on the individual members of the family. On behalf of Martin, do any other researchers have suggestions for tracking down this family further.

Phillip,
Excuse my ignorance on this, but is there a faster way of searching for glass cutter's relating to the 1754-1921 marriage records? I am using Ancestry and searching for Levy brings up over 12,000 records on this search.
Thanks

Try using the keyword 'glass' for both Levy and Levi- the records will come up with various names on the Census records plus Directories. I did a quick look and there are very few Levi/Levy listed in the glass trade. You will see china/glass dealers; glass cutters etc. This is borne out by JewishGen London Trade Directory records for Levi.Levy. Take a look using the keyword and see what you discover.

See also the Jacobstree website which contains data on the relationship between Elizabeth Levy glass cutter/dealer/manufacturer and the Jacobs lines. There maybe no relevance to your lines but best to keep all options open.
