I looked in the death indexes for anyone with the Christian names Gladys Eva and the date of birth 5 March 1914 and got only one hit. A Gladys Eva EGLAJS died Sep qtr 1982 in Birmingham Registration District. As it was such an unusual surname I did a search and found a marriage March qtr 1961 in Birmingham (vol 9s p736) between Vilis EGLAJS and Gladys E. DAVIS. This seems to be close enough to her stepfather's name to be worth a punt on getting the marriage certificate.

If this turns out to be her, then Ancestry also has old telephone directories and her address in 1980 was 55 Addison Street, Birmingham, which you can find on Google street view

Hello speaky,

I have just tacked your query onto your original thread so as to keep everything in the same place.

By the way, did you obtain the marriage certificate mentioned by Sue in post #2 above? If so, what did it say?

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
sorry taken so long to reply but good news is worth waiting for.
the death certificate was indeed my grandmother Gladys Eva Jones who married Vilis Eglajs. It is such a relief after 4 years of searching to finally find out what happened to her... however the search is continuing as the death informant was a Gillian Davies who is her daughter, (which weirdly is my maiden name!!!)

Could this be your Annie JONES in the 1911 census of Pentre, Hawarden:

Edward JONES Head 49 Married Marine Engineer Ewloe Flintshire
Annie do Wife 49 Married Aston do
Edward do Son 24 Single Iron Worker Liverpool
George do Son 22 Single Iron Worker Pentre Flintshire
Anne Jane do Daughter 17 Single do do
Elizabeth do Daughter 11 do do

If so, it would appear that both children were born out of wedlock before she married William DAVIES. Edward & Annie JONES have been married 30 years, having had 7 children of whom 5 are still living. Anne Jane is the only Anne/Annie JONES who is shown with a birthplace of Pentre.

I, too, can find no birth registrations for Annie's two daughters with any certainty, so it may be that you will have to consult the parish registers of Pentre or Hawarden and look at their baptismal records to confirm whether Annie was indeed unmarried at that time.
