Friends,
Please forgive me if I am a little emotional tonight.
I am not a Londoner by birth but by upbringing. When I was a child, my dearly missed Dad, my step father, showed me the London he knew and loved.
Last week I went to London and planned to do some FH research, as you do.
I missed the deaths and chaos by about 30 minutes and since then I have watched the resilience of Londoners.
Tonight the BBC have screened the First night of the Proms, including Elgar's Cockaigne Overture: In London Town, which was dedicated to the people of London who died or were involved in the recent bombings. As a background, old film clips of London in 1901 were shown.
Not quite my era but certainly that of my dad's ancestors.

Next Wednesday I am going back to London for the christening of my youngest grand daughter - another generation of young people, growing and living in London. So I shall be going back to London to celebrate this, with no worries, no fear of terrorist bombs, despite the scares of further attacks.
Although I no longer live in London, I still feel safe there - I lived through the Blitz, worked through the IRA bombings and still feel secure in London.

Over generations, people of London have survived in one way or another, so who am I to worry! If nothing else, our interests in the history of our ancestors have shown that ordinary people get on with their lives and leave their history for their descendents to read.

Thank you for reading this.

My blessings to you all.
