Cannot find the births/baptisms of either Thomas Frederick HOOD or his maybe brother Joseph George Mayo HOOD.:mad2:
Thomas was 'the eldest son of Joseph Frederick Hood' and wife Mary (nee MAYO), according to his Freedom Certificate. His parents married first in 1791 in Hereford (have marriage record, allegation and bond) - Mary was from Lugwardine and Joseph 'a gentleman from Kensington', and then again in 1792 (according to a register entry found on the internet) at St George Hanover Square - why the two marriages??? On the 1841 census Thomas was recorded as being born 'in this county' - Middlesex, and died in 1846 in Clerkenwell, age given by the informant, his son, as 54. Joseph died in 1838 in St George in the East aged 45, according to the informant who was a relative of his wife.
I'd like to confirm that Joseph WAS a son of Joseph and Mary, and therefore brother to Thomas, and to find their baptisms which may show dates and places of birth.
Where do you suggest I look??? :willy_nilly: Thanks in anticipation!!

Hello LouP and welcome to the forum :)

Have you tried investigating wills at all? There is a PCC will for a Thomas Frederick Hood, carver and gilder of Clerkenwell (probate date 1 November 1847). You can download a copy for £3.50 from Documents Online (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/wills.asp). There's no guarantee that he'll mention lots of his relations but it may fill in some pieces of the jigsaw.

On FamilySearch a Joseph & Susanna Hood are shown as parents of Joseph Frederick Hood born and baptised 1767 at Westminster St James. Is this the same Joseph Frederick who went on to marry Mary Mayo? If so, it might also be worth risking £3.50 on another will, that of Susannah Hood of St Pancras, Middlesex (14 March 1795). If she mentions grandchildren Thomas Frederick and Joseph George then your question may be answered. She may be a different Susannah altogether, though. Burial records on Ancestry may show her age.

Thanks Coromandel. I have Thomas' will but it talks about his immediate family (wife and children), his mother Mary who seems to have remarried twice more, and a pub inLugwardine called 'The Crown and Anchor' - nothing on his 'sibling' Joseph.Thomas and two of his brothers John and Robin were Carver and Gilders but Joseph was a labourer at the docks in the East End - perhaps he was the black sheep of the family??? I'll get a cousin with a subscription to A***y to look for info on Susannah, and if it seems ok will get her will, its not going to break the bank!! We THINK the parents of Joseph Frederick (1767) were John HOOD and Susannah ALLEN and have a record of their marriage. Onwards and upwards.

Trying to find out more about my great great grandfather Robin Vaughan Hood. I got onto this thread and as far as I know the Joseph Hood and Mary Mayo were RV's parents. RV arrived in Tasmania in 1833 and was a gilder and picture framer ( originally a carpenter) so it seems there were others in the family with a similar trade. Where I come unstuck is I cannot find any records of where he was born or lived before immigrating. I am assuming he, like Thomas Hood was born in Hereford. The mention of two marriages of Joseph is interesting as I was talking to my cousins husband and he mentioned something about bigamy in the family. Is this it? I am originally from Hobart Tasmania but now live in UK. I have an original land sale 'poster' re land sold that was owned by Robert LLoyd Hood and John Llloyd in Marsden, Herefordshire. This is I believe the same family as the poster was in my late mother's possession. I would assume John Llloyd was a cousin. RV married a Sarah Llloyd. All gets confusing. Any more info gladly accepted.
