I'm trying to change the photo in my profile, but something's going wrong. When I upoad a jpg it goes all grainy and it looks as though there's a sort of mesh over it. I tried a gif version, and that was just a mess of colours, and the png version didn't show at all - just one of those white boxes with a red X in the top corner. (That actually happened with one of the jpg's I tried too.)

As my original picture displays OK, I can only think it's something to do with the file size or settings, or some requirement in the board software. Has anyone any idea what might fix it for me?

Thanks,
Arthur Kennedy

the file size has to be very very small - smaller than the size it says in the instructions

The file size is very small (mostly under 10KB) and I've tried various picture sizes, 100 x 100 pixels and many smaller ones.

The png files still don't work, but I tried again with a smaller gif. The top quarter seemed OK, then below that it was just a mosaic of colours.

The existing photo isn't too bad, I suppose - just a bit formal - and I've now got one that's more like I usually look!

Well, I got it to work, but not the way I planned.

After seeing Rod's thread on pictures here (http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7172) I tried uploading the picture to some webspace and putting in the URL. So now you can see what I look like most of the time (if you're prepared to take that risk) ;)
