Hi.

I wonder if it would be possible for someone with access to the 1871 Birmingham census to do a look up for me.

I am looking for the family of Thomas and Elizabeth PHILLIPS, they had been living at 17 Fazeley Street in the 1861 census, although I doubt they were still there given that people seemed to move house a lot in those days.

Thomas was born about 1828 in what appears to be Elstree, Hertfordshire according to the 1861 census, although the writing is not very clear on the transcription, he is listed as a Wire Drawer, which is what my greatgrandfather listed his father as on his marriage certificate.

He was with his wife Elizabeth who was born about 1830 in Kings Stanley Gloucestershire and his daughter Mary Ann born about 1860/1 in Birmingham.

My greatgrandfather William was born about 1871/2 in Birmingham so I doubt he would appear on the 1871 census, but in 1881 Elizabeth Phillips is listed as a widow with two children Elizabeth and Witing is not very clear on the transcription, he is listed as a Wire Drawer, which is what my greatgrandfather listed his father as on his marriage certificate.

I know Birmingham is a big place and this may be a big ask, but I would certainly appreciate any help any one can give as I live in Wiltshire and can't get to Birmingham easily to look up for myself and the 1871 census as far as I know is not transcribed anywhere.

I have now found the family on the 1861, 1881 and 1891 census' so would love to be able to add the 1871 census to my information.

Ali.

Sorry the post seems to have gone wild, I hope people can understand it.

If not I'll try again.

I have had a look for them on Ancestry.I can't spot them. They must have been transcribed under some other name or they were not recorded.

Thanks for your time UK. I guess I will just have to go back to the drawing board as it could be they weren't in Birmingham at the time of the census. Perhaps they were visiting elsewhere?
