Gwent Archives (the new posh name for Gwent Record Office) is on course and on budget to open its new doors to the researching public on October 24th. The move from County Hall to The Works in Ebbw Vale will be completed by then, so we are told in an article in the South Wales Argus.
We are also told that a new website is due to go live at the same time. If you intend going there by train, because the pictures that were bandied about when they were convincing us this was a good thing showed the station just outside the door, be prepared for a bit of a walk. The new station has not materialised, there is no link to Ebbw Vale from the Rail station at Newport and the Welsh Assembly seems to be avoiding making one.
However, we should be able to get back to the serious work of researching and transcribing from the end of October and this time it will be in the state of the art (or technology) new premises.
