Are you looking for his ancestors or his descendents? He was born 1895 in St Bees, Cumbria, parents Peregrine Fisher Cannon & Lucy Walton Braithwaite, Grandparents Thomas Coulthard Cannon (born abt 1833 St Bees) & Ann.
What is the Wirral/Birkenhead connection. Did the family move here after 1901? My local library has a few post1912 trade directories for the area, but as Peregrine Fernie died in 1916 age about 21 he might not have been included as only the head of household is listed in the directories.
There may be something in local newspapers, such as the report of his death, which might list other family members. Do you know any other more recent family names or addresses?

I think Peregrine Cannon senior has been counted twice in the 1901 census. As well as being with his wife & family in St Bees, he is also in Yorkshire, at Albert Dock, Hull:
Rg13/4507 Vessel "Sir Robert Fernie", Captain Cannon, Master, married, 43, Cumberland.
I wish my family had such useful christian names for doing genealogy - Peregrine, Fernie, Fisher, Oswald, Raynard, Coulthard. All my lot seem to be John, James, William, Elizabeth, Mary!

Thanks for your help. I'm after descendants of this family. I've got their Family Bible with handwritten BMD's from 1803 to 1903 and I'd like to see it returned. It's a big 1761 King James Version and would have cost lots back then. It cost me a few quid from a secondhand Bookshop. Tragically, Peregrine Fernie dies in 1916 at the Battle of the Somme, his twin Sisters die aged 6 months in 1898 and his only other sibling is Raymond Clark Cannon (acc. to this Bible), born aboard the ship you mentioned in 1896 (off the California coast). I'm trying to find out what happened to him and, hopefully, trace living relatives who might be happy to have this dusty tome returned to them.
The Wirral connection is that "Cannon, P.F." is on the WW1 War Memorial in Hamilton Square, Birkenhead so he either moved nearby or his regiment was local.
Cheers,
Mike.

Wallasey library has only 1 Liverpool directory between 1897 & 1939.
1912 Gore's directory
Cannon Peregrine Fisher, master mariner, 69 Mount Road, Higher Tranmere
So that explains why his son is commemerated on the Birkenhead War Memorial.
Birkenhead library may have more directories, plus electoral registers, which might help to track down descendants.
