If somebody registered for a marriage in the 1920's at Birkenhead Register Office, would any record of it still exist ? The marriage was later cancelled. And if a record exists where might I find it ?
Thanks,
Mike.

I do not know if there would be a record of this proposed marriage. If it was cancelled shortly before it was due to take place then maybe there is a crossed out entry in the register. If it does exist it will be at Wirral RO,Maybe you would stand a better chance trying to find the Banns (if any).

Are you saying that the marriage was to take place at the register office, in which case I would think the happy(?) couple applied for a licence. I cannot help as to where you should look though, but other members are much more knowledgable on the subject.
As UK suggested, if it was to take place in a church, then perhaps Banns were read, in which case you might find the record of Banns in the parish register, if you know the parish.
