I have some sketchy details of a George POTTER aged 15 imprisoned for larceny on 1 Jul 1837 in Oxfordshire.
How can I find out more information? How long was he in prison? Could he have been transported ?

From Jackson's Oxford Journal, Saturday 8 July 1837 (under the heading 'BANBURY, July 6'):

'The General Quarter Sessions of the Peace for the Borough of Banbury were held at the Town Hall on Saturday last . . . when the following prisoners took their trials:--

[some other cases omitted here]

'George Potter pleaded guilty to an indictment for stealing copper straps and rivets, the property of
Mr. R. Edmunds. Sentence -- Three months' imprisonment in Oxford Castle.'
