Francis Barnes born 1861 Eton

Hi,

I'm trying to trace my Great, great grandfather Francis Barnes born in Osgodby, Lincolnshire about 1860. He disapears from all records from 1891 and no record of a death, however, I have discovered that a Francis Barnes died in Eton in 1887 aged 26 years. He would be a match but can any local historians out there shine some light on this one. I dont know if just ordering the death certifiate will provide me with the information I need. What was his employment, address and did he marry and have children. I would really appreciate any help on this one, many thanks,

have you discounted the Frank Barnes who was a Private in the R.M.L.I. in Falmouth? On the 1891 Census it says that he was born in Market Rasen which is as close as you can get to Osgodby.

The Francis Barnes you mention is my Francis Barnes married to Mary Ann Blakey. Mary died in Wickenby about 1882 three months after giving birth to her second child, Lucy. The story handed down is that Francis also died about the same time, however, I'm not convinced. There is no trace within the Parish records of his burial or any other records for that matter. I'm exploring the notion that with one surviving child, John Thomas aged two years, he decided to leave Wickenby and his only son to begin a new life somewhere else. During this period at a time where everything was recorded, there must be some clues as to his where abouts. Huge brick wall.

did Lucy survive? The 1891 Census (RG12/2000/40 Page 18) for Lower Wick, Berkeley, Gloucestershire has a Lucy J. Barnes living with her aunt & uncle Charles & Jane TAYLOR. Lucy's pob is given as Sleaford.

This Lucy is the wrong one.
On the 1881 census she is daughter of Charles and Susanna in Grantham. Lincs.
