Robert Danskin G.H. married Grace Hope Spr (spinster?) 12 Sept 1772 at All Saints Newcastle Upon Tyne. I assume the G.H. refers to his work/profession but what is it?

At first glance G.H. and Grace Hope seem too much of a coincidence? Have you a copy of the original parish record? There are a few posts on Robert Danskin on other sites (if you Google them they are easy to find): perhaps it's worth linking up with some potential rellies there to compare notes

Have you looked at the actual image or just a transcription?
If the actual image from the register, is it a very definite G H or could it possibly be interpreted as something else ? e.g. s. m. for single man.

Robert Danskin G.H. ... Newcastle Upon Tyne
GH = Gateshead ?????
Just a thought :biggrin:.
Otherwise the same questions as the others. Looking at several adjacent pages of the register can be a great help in interpreting abbreviations.

GH = Gateshead ?????
I agree this is most likely. I've seen G.H. in other Newcastle registers, where Gateshead has been the known location for the family.

Now I have various avenues to 'chase up' and Yes I did looked at the original Parish Register.
Thank you to all

General consensus seems to suggest it was something to do with Glass Making as this is the work his offspring did (think I'll still chase up the Gateshead connection though).

If it was GM it could be a reference to him being a Masonic Grand Master

The GH you asked about stands for Glass House which is where Robert worked as a glass maker. He was a Glass House worker
