Countryman

Does anyone know what the occupation Countryman would be?

I am thinking along the lines of gamekeeper something like that. Am i way off?

Hi Amanda,

I've done a Google search of occupations but so far haven't come across a Countryman. Perhaps he was one of the landed gentry, and it wasn't an occupation?

Are you certain it is Countryman and not Counterman?

A Counterman weighed out drugs and chemicals ; bottles or packs.
A location may help to decide this.
