Hello, this is my first post in this Forum. Do we have any ASC experts on the Forum? As a result of a stroke of luck I have rarely encountered while researching my family tree, I have been able to confirm from the 1901 Census that my great-great uncle James ALEXANDER served as a Driver with the ASC - James was one of a large number of men of that Corps in camp at Aldershot on the night the Census was taken, in the 'ASC Cleaning Area'. I would now like to try to find out more about James' service. I know for certain that he served in South Africa during the war and am assuming that they are on the Census having (just) returned from SA. I have not had a chance to visit the ASC Museum yet but I understand they do have their own archives (although obviously they do not hold records of service there). What do you think my next step should be? Any advice appreciated. p.s. James' brother (my gt grandfather) collected & framed many cigarette cards relating to the war at that time (portraits of Kitchener, Roberts, Gatacre, Joubert, Steyn, French etc etc) and I am happy to say they survived & are on my study wall as I write. Has anyone else come across a collection like this? Are they rare?

You should try The National Archvies (TNA) at Kew. Check the Soldiers' Documents in class WO97, the medal roll in WO100 and pension records in WO118.
