Does anyone have any information with respect to Pentrich Colliery; I think my grandfather Walter Severn BAMFORD was a Deputy there in the 1920’s, he lived in Ripley with his wife Annie and 3 children Cyril (born 1916), Jesse (born 192?) and Roy (born1930). I would be most grateful for information about the pit and if there is a ledger of workers still in existence.

Does anyone have any information on a Cyril BAMFORD who was seriously injured in a colliery accident in 1944 (I think) and subsequently died, I’m pretty sure he lived in Belper but do not know where he worked or where the accident was.

Many thanks

Hello Paul
I've just had a quick Google and by putting in Pentrich Colliery, came up with quite a few hits, including one which is part of a site at http://www.pentrich.org.uk/index.html If you haven't already found it, it might be worth a look.
Best wishes
Ann

many thanks I had found the site before and was very frustrated by the link from Coal mining "a-miners-son.com", linking to a strange religious site? which has nothing to do with Derbyshire coal mining, has anyone else had this problem?

The Pentrich web site is fascinating but unfortunately for me, does not move me and further.

many thanks, as yet the register does not appear to cover Derbys/Notts mines and I cannot find my uncles name, I'll need to contact the website owner I think, however its a very sobering site when you see just how many people were injured/killed in the mining industry.

Regards

Paul
