Thicthener/Eydman Marriage St Mary Islington

Have been hitting the big brick wall for some months now and hoping someone will take pity on us!!
Have record of marriage between William Thicthener and Elizabeth Eydman on 8th October 1798 @ St Mary Islington. I know the transcription for this record was detailed as Thicthemier but unable to find any variation on the surname for William's birth(around 1770-7) or death (around 1861). The marriage details came from St Mary Islington Register of Marriages which I understand is original data from Church of England Parish Registers 1754-1921. Elizabeth we believe was Christened in Islington, B1776?
Variants of name include Titchener/Thitchener/Titchiner/Titchner
Any help most gratefully received - Thanks in anticipation

The transcription is Thicthener and that is exactly what the original looks like.
The banns in the September are transcribed as Shicthener but the reverend has very clear and lovely writing which states Thicthener.

If you have access to Ancestry, there are several census references, a lot of Thicthener marriages and births, 24 references on UK Incoming Passenger Lists, 37 in their Phone Books and 2 on the National Probate Calendar.

Do you know if they had any children?

Elizabeth THICTHENER, aged 85, is shown as a mother-in-law in Stepney in 1861 (RG09; 295; 109; 15). It looks as if her daughter Mary married into a family of timber merchants.

If she married into a family of merchants it might be worth looking for the family in some sort of business in census and directories. If they can be found in business, did they leave wills?

If your chap left a will when he popped his clogs - maybe his dad did the same and handed on a family business? If a will was left it may provide some insights as to where to proceed with further research.

The will of Richard THITCHENER of the parish of St George Hanover Square was proved in the Consistory Court of the Diocese of London in June 1790.

The will is held at the London Metropolitan Archives. So glad you've found something!

As far as I know they don't have an order page for wills. There is a page for ordering printouts from parish registers, which will give you a rough idea of the cost.

(put www. in front, and scroll almost to the foot - Prints from Microfilm).

It's probably best to email them with the index reference for the will and ask for a quote. They will then send you a hard copy in the mail.

Geoffers, thank you so much for responding. Know Elizabeth died in Mile End, 1861 Census recorded her as a Widow living with daughter Mary Ann Jupp. Not been able to locate them 1841/51 Census and nothing identifies where he was born. He was either Jeweller and/or watch/clock maker.
