Can any one help me with the bithplaces of Thomas and Elizabeth (nee Miller) Hearn? They were married in Balsham in 1827 and went on to have William, Hannah, Mary, Susan, John George, Joseph, Sarah, Ann and Thomas. Thomas was born circa 1801 and in the 1841 census of Balsham, both he and Elizabeth were enumerated at being born 'out of county'. If anyone can look at the 1851 census for Balsham, that may hold the answer,
Many thanks
Best wishes

Thank you very much Mythology, I really appreciate that. Won't be logging on again until tomorrow, so please don't hurry on my account. :)

In Stocking Lane, Balsham
HO107/1761, folio 405A (i.e, first page - the page numbers are not given)
Elizabeth HERN, Head, Married, 43, Servant's Wife
with three children, also all born Balsham, Joseph 12, Sarah 9, Thomas 4.

Very many thanks Mythology, for someone who doesn't hurry.... ;)
This certainly looks like Elizabeth, as Thomas was known to be a servant. So, suppose he must have been off doing what servants did! The other Thomas listed as a servant in Horseheath, could be telling porkies.....
I had a feeling this was going to happen - that's why it has been put off for so long. Trouble is Hearn is another one of those names, can be spelt in so many ways and seems to be fairly well spread over a wide area. Why couldn't Thomas have been called Jememiah or something :( As for Elizabeth being born in Balsham, I think that could probably we true. Living with them in 1841 was another Miller (probably her sister?) who was 'born in county'. Oh well, back to the drawing board.
Many thanks again - and to your friend who used up the credits for me. I haven't looked at the FFHS site for ages so must have a peek
Best wishes

Ann,

these have absolutely nothing to do with your question except it concerns HEARN. Maybe it will be handy to someone one day. I jotted them down from a film I was looking at today (only because I was jotting down all HORN)

Essex Record Office number D/P170/1/9
Burials: Saint Nicholas, Harwich, Essex
Elizabeth HEARN, aged 64, buried Dec 20, 1804
Capt Thomas HEARN, aged 60, buried Jan 16 1806

Christine - many thanks for that, will add them to my 'unknown quantities' file ;)
Mythology - I think I'm going to lie down in a darkened room with a glass of wine, then I'll have another think about this lot  I'm sure everything will seem much clearer by then..... I knew I should never have had another go at the Hearns, something tells me I might have gone some way down this path before and that's why I gave up
Best wishes

Hello Jan

Many thanks for that, but I am pleased to report that the Hearns got sorted out some time ago - they actually belong to a friend of mine, and I have been helping her track them down for years. I will pass the info about the marriage on to her as I can't remember if she has sorted out her Hannah.

Best wishes and thanks
Ann
