William John BARLOW, a sergeant in the Royal Artillery, was residing with militiamen in Fort Rowner, Alverstoke, Hants in 1881. His wife Eliza (army schoolmistress), son and sister-in-law are in Portsmouth. In 1901 they are in Ipswich, where William was a recruiting sergeant.

William was born in Cape Town.
