Can't find a William Lyte but there is a William Light, born Jersey 1867 on the 1871 Jersey census. However, his parents are Philip and Mary A Light.

The above Philip Light had a brother William Light born abt 1850.

A William C Lyte married an Eliza Dolton, Totnes, Devon, Mar Qtr 1912 - might this be your William Charles?

What details do you have about your William Charles and his parents's William Lyte and Mary Taylor not previously posted?

Hi,

Thanks for this.

The marriage certificate of a William Charles Lyte and a Catherine Neil Given in Melbourne, Victoria in 1865 lists his birthplace as Jersey. His death certificate for 1927 records his age as 60 and his parents names as Wm Lyte and Mary Taylor.

This is all the info I have.

Cheers

Hi Bill
which year did he marry in Oz, not 1865??
Some in 1871 census Jersey spelt as Legeyt, perhaps the local patois??

Marriage was 1888 at Sandhurst.

That's right, should have written 1888 in Oz. I've checked the census' with varied names, but nothing seems to match.

Hi again
In 1851 census in Anc## there is a Lyte family in Jersey.
Parents bn England yet the children were born in Sweden & Copenhagen.
Someone has sent a correction in.
Not sure if you have access to this.
If you would like to contact the person, happy to do so.

Hi Georgie,

We had record rainfall on Saturday, the most rain in one day for 35 years..... The track may be a bit wet, but it does drain very well. More rain expected tomorrow (Cup Day). Get your money on So You Think....

Thanks for that. I am aware of the Lyte family from the 1851 census. They are descendants of Henry Francis Lyte and they spent a bit of time on the Islands. I believe they had a connection to the Thomas O Lyte and family so maybe that is one reason why they visited the islands.

What I was hoping to do was try to find where William Charles Lyte's family came from and how they connect into the known Lyte families.

I believe that Thomas O Lyte was born in St Clement, Jersey around 1806 but have yet to have that confirmed. I would like to know if his parents are recorded.

Cheers
Bill
