Thomas Hemlin and Cathrine were both born in Irealnd and so was there 1st son. What I can't make sense of is that they all moved to Manchester (don't know when). The Hemiln's second son was born in England. 14 years before their 1st son was born Thomas and Cathrine married in Manchester Cathredral(1828). I can't make sense of this.

Any ideas?? :detective:

The first thought is that these are two different couples as it would be a might unusual for the 1st born to occur 14 years after the marriage. There could be medicals issues or stillbirths here so one cannot make the comment absolutely. These of transport between Manchester/Liverpool and Ireland makes them returning to ireland for a while perfectly feasible.

Can you detail the source of your information. Is it census data which confirms the age difference between mother and offspring.

Do you have birth certs for the children? or you going off dates for baptism? remembering that children were not always baptised as infants. Noticed on marriage that Thomas was listed as a widow, do you have any info on his first marriage?

Can we have childrens names? Having difficulty finding them in 1841, the ones I have picked up are transcibed as Hanlon, original looks like Hemlon, Thomas Ireland 1801-Catherine Ireland 1811. if so there are 2 children Thomas and sarah. both listed as born Lancashire, Thomas 1834 and sarah 1840

What is the name of the 1st son and when was he born?

Migration from Ireland to Lancashire was not unusual.

The Hemiln's second son was born in England.

What was the name of the second son and when was he born?

Your family seems to appear in the 1851 census at HO107/2220 15 River Street, Chorlton, Manchester; with the eldest son then born Manchester

The son, Thomas may possibly appear in the 1861 census at RG9/2960 f88 p36, Nicholas Street, Manchester
