Hello Kaye
I can't help you with the family, but there are lots of sites on the web that might. I 'Googled' kandy ceylon tea and came up with a lot of hits, for example one at http://www.wilstea.com/ceylon.htm
You may, of course, have already done this, if so, sorry ;)
Best wishes
Ann

That leaves me stymied then, except to suggest trying the British Library, Oriental and India Office Library in the hope that they may have something.

I don't know if 1895 is too early for you, but Archive CD Books produce Thacker's Indian Directory, which has several (over 40) pages of Ceylon Tea Gardens. It lists the name of the estate, address, proprietors, managers etc.
Good luck!
Susan
