The Courier December 8th 1905

The news of the death of Mrs Hubbard was received at Wadhurst with much regret. Until quite recently Mr and Mrs Hubbard resided at Hope Cottage Wadhurst. Having removed to Sevenoaks. The deceased was seized with Apoplexey and died within two hours, so that her two children who are living here were unable to be with her at the last. The funeral which took place on Thursday last at Riverhead, was attended cheifly by relatives of the deceased. The coffin whch was of polished elm with brass fittings, was covered with many beautiful floral emblems in addition to many wreaths from the immediate relatives, there were many others, among them being three from the Rev. William Clough, Harleden? - In remembrance of faithful service at Hope Cottage. Mr and Mrs Robert Reekes- With eternal sympathy. Mr and Mrs J Saunders - In loving memory of a dear friend. With deep sympathy. Mrs Newbold.Broadwater down Tunbridge Wells.

We know Hope Cottage was a school in 1851, but what does it mean by faithful service at Hope Cottage?
for quite a tiny house it seems very interesting. any ideas?

Well in 1901 the household consisted of the folowing

Sched No Road or House Name Surname First Names Rel To Head Condition Age Occupation Where Born County
20 Hope House Hubbard James Head Married 48 Bricklayer Sussex
20 Hope House Hubbard Esther Wife Married 48 Kent
20 Hope House Hubbard George William Son Single 24 Baker Sussex
20 Hope House Hubbard James Ernest Son Single 22 Butcher Sussex
20 Hope House Hubbard Harriet Ethel Daughter Single 19 Sussex
20 Hope House Hubbard Ellen Lydia Daughter Single 16 Sussex

And I don't know if this is the same household ( lodger ) or next door ( as Hope cottage does appear to have been 2 seperate houses at some point)

21 Hope House Hazeldine William Clough Head Single 31 Clergyman (Church Of England) Shropshire

IT sounds as if the two eldest children stayed then, but where did Rev Clough's congregation worship?
