My grandfather , Sydney Vaughan , came to Canada in the early 1900s , as did 2 of his brothers , Milson and Jack . Their father Richard Vaughan was born in Ruardean in 1844 and died there in 1889. He was married to Elizabeth Jenkins who died in 1919. Richard's father was John Vaughan , born 1806 in Ruardean, died in 1876 and married to Elizabeth Thompson , whose parents were John and Mary Thompson , also of Ruardean.

The 1851 census shows a John Vaughan born 1777 with his wife Elizabeth at 15 Morse Lane .At 16 Morse Lane is the former John , born 1806 ,who we know is related. The latter John of 1777's Will of 1857 shows a son John (ours) and a son Richard of East Dean.We believe John of 1777 married Elizabeth Bennet , born to James and Betty Bennet in 1783 and married Feb 15, 1803 in Staunton by Monmouth . I need more info on this Vaughan family
- more children , who are John's parents or his siblings ?

I also need to verify that there is a Milson vaughan and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Waddley buried in the St John's Baptist churchyard in Ruardean . He was born in 1842 , a brother of Richard of 1844 , my great grandfather. There is a controversy about whether he came to America or not .

Many thanks for any help !

Hi Barb

John Vaughan c 19.1.1777 parents Richard & Betty.

Marriage of Richard & Betty Gagg 10.7.1768

Children
Mary 11.12.1768
Betty 9.9.1770
Absalom 22.11.1772
Sarah 1.2.1775
John 19.1.1777
Lucy 10.9.1780
Richard 10.6.1783

Found these on "Hugh Wallis Batch Numbers" its the county/ parish and you can search just a surname. No marriages for Ruardean on this site yet, but I did find it on the IGI and confirmed the christenings.

To find the children on the IGI, don't fill in the first boxes, on the right put the fathers name and the mothers 1st name only. Do a 20 year search for christenings. If you know when they married then forward 10-15 years before a search i.e. 1768 = 1780 20 years either side so it will cover 1760-1800.

The same for a marriage, just put in his name at the top left and the wife's first name under, click marriage.

You will find that there is possibly Richard's siblings in Ruardean and with children.

Good luck

Irene
