I was at the TNA yesterday looking at the film for the Independant Chapel at Little Baddow and came across this entry relating to one of my husband's families. It's one of the first in the book and the minister (Stephen MORELL) has made quite an interesting job of it!

1802 born 12th July baptized 19th Sept Joseph Scotchman daughter (sic) of William & Sarah Scotcher (sic) of Little Baddow
(The 'er' on Joseph's surname has been written over to make it 'man')

 Now I wonder what happened?

Did William & Sarah want a son that much?!!?

Or was the minister new to the area and having trouble with the accent ..... "what was that again - Scotcher?" "No Scotchman" .......?

Or did he suffer from nervous transcription syndrome - something we all get from time to time?

It just goes to show that we all make those stupid mistakes at times, doesn't it?

I remember filling in some details once and put Glenys husband of Peter!! Having looked, I don't think I've changed sex! |laugh1|

Mmmm, that's one I have to check every time I visit my sister, as she always tells her son that Uncle Mary and Aunty Lee are coming to stay! She swears it's unintentional - that it just slips out! |shakehead

And I stood in the pulpit this Easter and said "... in this Christmas Season ..." |blush|

so it's not just our hands that slip up .........

............ perhaps we're just naturally confused! |laugh1|

Oops!!

I always tell my husband that it's down to having to remember so many things.....the brain goes on overload! He tells everyone I am an `elephant' as I can even remember what clothes I was wearing at a certain time 30 years ago, or even what was said! That means it's always `ask Glenys she'll know'. The problem is.....I can't remember what I did yesterday. Mind you, sometimes it's deliberate....I have to give my brain a rest sometimes! ;)
