Looking for help in verifying birth/baptism of my grandfather Vincient Hendon Stormont. I have his ww1 service record, 1911 census, marriage cert and death cert. Also have information on a gold medal won for singing in 1909.
His army service record records him as Vincent either B or R Stormont and born in Brighton Sussex, the 1911 census confirms place of birth.
I just wonder if anyone has access to Brighton's Parish records. Date of birth can be from 1883 - 1885.
Many Thanks
John

Parish registers may not necessarily be the best way to go, not least because of the number of possible churches and the relative difficulty of access (from your location).
His marriage (St Mary Hanwell, 1910) has his father as Vincient Stormont (deceased) no occupation, which could be suspect. Maybe his birth was registered under a different surname? You have posted this on the Illegitimacy forum, so clearly you are already considering that option.
Can you find any marriage connections with the names STORMONT and HENDON?
Any families with those surnames in Brighton?
Any possible candidates for Vincent in (or born in ) Brighton in 1901 or 1891?
Where was he when he won the medal for singing in 1909?
Let us know what searches you've already done, and any other information you may have.

Hi Kerrywood ,
Thanks for your reply
I have attached the information that I have for my grandfather , Vincient Hendon Stormont.
Also images of the gold medal that he won for singing in 1909. I have not been able to establish, despite numerous searches, which choral society presented this medal. I have assumed that it is London based. I did contact the archivist for the Labour Corps , but the information that they supplied was of a general nature and not necessarily specific to grandad.
I know that from speaking to the only surviving daughter , Joyce, my aunt, that there were never visits or any contact with Vincient's relatives throughout the time that she lived with him and never any mention of the same.
I also contacted the Foundling organisation and they confirmed that they would never have given a middle name and their records indicate that he was not a foundling.
A real mystery!
Many thanks for any help that you can give.
Kind Regards
Kerrywood

Unfortunately you can't send attachments to the forum. Images that aren't restricted by copyright (please check!) can be uploaded via a site such as Photobucket. If you need help doing this, there are instructions in this thread (http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showthread.php?57255-How-to-use-Photobucket).
Alternatively, you could transcribe the details and post them on the forum in the usual way. No doubt plenty of members will be keen to help. :smile5:
