I was wondering if anyone could look up the census for 1891 for Marie Horton Actress. She was born Batley/Dewsbury Yorkshire 1882. The other question is there anywhere they keep records on Theatre preformers and shows.
thanks Patricia.

Hi Trish,

Thank you for the information you found. Its the fist Mary Ann Horton that I was looking for. She must have changed her name between 1891 and 1901 from Mary Ann to Marie. On the 1901 she is Marie and occupation is an actress so she must have changed it for her job. In 1901 she is living in a share house with other performers in the Derbyshire area. Her sister Hannah Lily Horton changed her name to Lily Horton, she was an actress too. I have been having a lot of trouble finding Marie because changed her name. Do you know of anywhere they might keep records on preformers and the show they preformed in?
She married a Francis Bowles otherwise known as Francis Deane living on own means in 1904 and that is how it was written on the marriage certificate and that is another mystery.
Thanks again for you help
Patricia

you might be interested in Mary Ann/Marie's father, Joseph, in previous censuses. Of course, you can look up both Joseph and Jane in the 1881 census for yourself but here he is as a young lad in 1871:

Name / Estimated Birth Year / Birthplace / Relationship / Occupation
Benjamin Horton 1822 Kirkheaton, Yorkshire, England Head Clothier

There's a good possibility that the following is the marriage record for Joseph and Jane T. HORTON:

England and Wales, Civil Registration Index: 1837-1983:
HORTON, Joseph
WAILES, Jane Taylor
Marriages
December Qtr 1879

If you look at the 1901 census, you'll see Jos. and Jane T. HORTON with children Hannah L. and Harry. Joseph's occupation is Piano Foote [?] Tuner and they are living at 9 Clifton St in Garston, Lancashire [RG13/3507 Folio 15 Page 21].

Also -- bonus: I have found Jane T. Wailes as a young girl in the 1861 census:

Hi Trish,

Thanks for all the look ups they are great. This will help me a lot. How do I contact Ladkyis? If I just put a notice on the Derbyshire forum page will they see it?
The other mystery with Marie Horton is she married Francis Bowles/Deane 1904. We thought he had died because she married again in 1915 to a Suttcliffe. My grandmother received a letter 2 years after her mother remarried thats how we found out he was still alive and someone then said they thought he had moved to Canada. They mystery still goes on. Francis Bowles/Deane is nearly as big a problem as Marie. I had found one Francis Bowles born St Pancras father George not sure if it is the right family yet.
Thanks again for all you help.
Patricia
