My Dad's sister died age 11 and on her death cert it states that an inquest was held on 18 July 1907.

If the report still exists where would I be likely to find it.

She died in Mile End Old Town.

Hello June

If you don’t find anything at the LMA then you should try Tower Hamlets Local History Library: http://www.ideastore.co.uk/en/articles/local_history
Local newspapers often had reports of coroners’ inquests and they’re quite often very detailed.

The Library has copies of these newspapers that cover 1907:

City and East London Observer
East End News - Courier Press
East London Advertiser
Eastern Argus
Eastern Post

Thankyou
Louisa Maud, will try LMA.

Malcolm, that sounds interesting. Would like to find a report in the newspaper.

Thanks again

You may not wish to mention it, but whether or not a record is found depends on the cause of death. Then as now, newspapers were more interested in the horrific and unusual.

Hi Geoffers

I did wonder that. No it wasn't horrific.

Sudden Acute Lobar Pneumonia and Pleurisy.

I suppose they did the inquest because it was sudden.

If there was an inquest it would be reported in the local paper - such stuff is bread-and-butter to local papers. It might not give much detail but I think it would be covered.

My gt grandfather died 1879 of natural causes but there was an inquest and a paragraph about it wedged in between all the other inquests. It didn't say much though it did tell me my gt grandmother gave evidence about being told he was dead and going to see him - he collapsed whilst delivering milk. It also gave a slightly different cause of death from the one stated on the death cert.
