My mother passed away on the I.O.W. in 2007. I have tried both anc. and Genes and both seem to be unable to provide death cert details for after 2005.

Is there any way I can obtain a copy of my mum's death cert legally as her next of kin? (I think my sister has the original somewhere but I'd rather not bother her on such a senstive topic if you get my drift).

Thanks

My husband was able to obtain his fathers death cert recently from our local office , he didn't register his death at the time as his father had a second family! I think a phone call or email to the I.O.W. or GRO will be able to advise you.

Hello BV

Anyone can obtain a recent death (or birth or marriage) certificate without any difficulty - don't worry about having to know the index details. You don't have to 'prove' why you want it.

Go to this site for details about the IOW Registration Service and they'll be able to help you:

I've found that local Registration Services are extremely helpful and have the 'human' touch that you don't have with the GRO.

You don't have to know the GRO reference to order a certificate but if you did want to find it, the list of sites holding a full copy of the GRO indexes is shown on the GRO web site.

The nearest to you is probably the London Metropolitan Archives.
