View Full Version : The 15th Yorkshire FH Fair, 26th June 2010
One of the best fairs in the country is taking place again in just over a week's time.
Details Here. (http://www.yorkshirefamilyhistoryfair.com/)
We will be there as usual and hope to see friends old and new.
Graham
Just had another look at the list of exhibitors. The whole country is represented, from Aberdeen to Cornwall and points in between. It'll be harder to find nothing than to find something to help

Yes Graham one of the best fairs of the season.
Parish Chest and British Genealogy will be in their usual corner (No one dare take that corner from Pam) ;)
Anguline Research Archives (ARA) will be there with both books and CDs including many "Fair Specials".
These fair specials are heavily discounted compilation cds only available at the various fairs ARA exhibits at.
In addition Anguline Research Archives are giving away free copies of a CD specially prepared for this fair (No Purchase Necessary).
The CD contains a number of samples of newspapers from the 19th century.
Cheers
Guy
Not only do exhibitors come from all over but they come back year after year - which must say something about the event in itself. I was talking to Alex at the Sunderland fair a few weeks ago and he remarked on that.
I've made sure my Brit Gen badge is in my shirt collar so I don't forget it - daren't risk the wrath of Pam :biggrin5:

Yes but people asked Stan to add something extra this year, something special, as it was the 15th fair.
All stops have been pulled out!
No effort has been spared!
Yes it is true!
Anguline Research Archives will be at York. ;)

Seriously though it is one of the best fairs in the country and gives WDYTYA a run for its money in my view.
I have been to every York fair from the first year when it was on two days.
There are excellent transport links with good free (me Scottish roots and Yorkshire ways) parking.
Good public transport and everyone is made welcome, even Cornish Piskies. ;)
I seem to remember someone mentioned cornish teas but they never materialised.
Cheers

I totally agree about how great it is. Unfortunately I always seem to find more stuff that I want / need than finances permit. This year I intend going with a list that I shall hopefully stick to even though I've been saving up for weeks. Hope to finally get to meet some of you.

Oh no! I'll be out of the UK then and not returning to the UK until the day after (I know, I know, poor timing on my part.......)
Have always wanted to attend one of these events.
Never mind, have fun those of you who are lucky enough to go (blows heavily into kleenex....)

The Daft Bat will be on the Brit-Gen stand, so make sure you have ear defenders, or at the very least, some ear plugs!:wink5:
Anyone would think that I talked a lot.......
Don't forget to let us know who you are so that you may claim your Brit-Gen badge. I managed to pin one on Graham last year without drawing blood! :biggrin5:

Only because I was watching you :biggrin5: That's the other reason I made sure it's already in my shirt collar - the risk factor :biggrin5:

I can think of two ways. ;) Well three actually
One use a vacum flask or better still bung it in a travel fridge. ;)
Second bring the cow and milk her on the day.
Third and possibly the easiest, there is a Tesco on the road into York buy some there and decant before anyone sees. :)
Helpful as always

We do not think you talk a lot, we know you do. Lots of three legged donkeys in Hertfordshire!
The only reason there are three legged donkeys in Hertfordshire is that Jan has only talked to them once. Those she has talked to twice have no hind legs |laugh1||laugh1|

I'm really looking forward to the FH show as I've never been to this one. I will remember to bring a big shopping bag and plenty of cash as there is always plenty I want to buy at FH shows.
See you all there.

Of course, provided you bring the waffles and the fresh cream :whistling::lol:

Have a safe trip and don't forget to do as the navigator says :D
Much closer for us. I'll be loading the car on Friday afternoon ready to drive down on Saturday. Should be interesting because we've just had to buy an extra CD spinner to accommodate all our new products since last year and I've never tried loading the car with that as well :whistling:
Graham
If I go where the navigator (Frank) tells me to head, we will get well and truly lost!
Poor, hard done by Frank :Angel_anim: :D
Thought you told me he sleeps all the way anyhow |snore|:biggrin5:
I don't know. Poor Frank  does all he can to prevent you losing your :driving: licence and gets told off for it

Heard the local weather forecast a few minutes ago and apparently the weather is going to be very good on Saturday so just right for a visit to the York Fair.

apologies first. I looked for the waffle maker but it's not here (hopefully on the boat). Will doughnuts or scones help? With cream, of course.
Catalogues are all printed now, ready for Saturday. Today I'll be cleaning the car - can't have it showing up in front of Bo Peep in less than gleaming condition
Packing the car this afternoon in readiness for an early start on Friday. We hope to reach the Knavesmire about 2pm depending on how many BMW drivers get in the way!
Look out BMW drivers - incoming Bo Peep :tank::gun_bandana::auto:
Never fear, Graham, despite being lovely and clean now, after that journey, my car will be filthy.
You should buy some Onedrywash then you could clean it in the car park :D

I started out yesterday and am staying with my baby brother, who lives somewhere off the A1 (very handy :wink5:) so that I do not have to leave too early tomorrow.
I look forward to seeing as many of you who can make it on Saturday. :biggrin5:

Jealous now, I didn't think I would miss the trip to york but I do. I might try to persuade Mr M to book holidays for next year and we could do a few places around there as well as meet up with Jan1954 and Bo and Frank. Oh and Ron from Genealogy Printers and Graham and Guy and.......and.......
~remembers the Jumbo House chinese buffet...............sigh~
Just finished packing the car. Everything went in - even the new spinner for all the new CDs :D

Just got back from setting up at York in readiness for tomorrow's fair.
Pam has already released her secret weapon and now I will be at a disadvantage tomorrow as I am almost totally deaf.
You see Jan came early and Pam & Frank came late.
Jan, ever helpful, assisted Angela and me setting up the Anguline stall.
Unfortunately she never stops talking and now neither Angela nor I will be able to hear our customers. ;)
Dastardly plot! ;)
Thanks for the help Jan, see you tomorrow.
Cheers

I've been following this thread and I feel really envious of all who will be at York tomorrow :frown: I live less than 20 miles from York but am unable to attend the fair as we go on holiday on Sunday :smile5: I must plan things better in future
My best wishes for a successful day.
Hope it's a good day enjoyed by all :smile5:

Scoop Bat reporting.
The sun is shining, the birds are singing and we just have an hour until we open.
The halls are hives of activity as those who did not set up yesterday fling themselves around the place in a frenzy!
Catch you later.....

I am here, at home envying all y'all. Oh OH this was sent to me by a friend in Texas
What is the difference between "y'all" and "All y'all"?
"All y'all" is plural. I am soooo glad a Texan told me that.
So Hey all y'all, have a nice day and avoid going near the windows of the Knavesmire stand because the sun can melt display stands.

Well, the crowds are now thinning, and I have talked to so many wonderful people, showed them some of the posts on the forum and the general view has been: "Oh! Everyone sounds so friendly and helpful! Isn't that a great forum!"
So, you are all making this a welcome place to be and hopefully we will have some more new members very shortly.
Time to turn the lights out so that they (and we) can cool down a bit.
We got back from a very successful fair about 45 minutes ago - via the chippy of course. Can't be bad - money in pocket and doughnuts as well :D
Very nice to see old and new friends.

I have made it back to my brother's place in one piece, albeit very hot and very tired! However, the voice is still holding up! :wink5:
Thank you to everyone who attended, making it a such a lovely day, especially to Pam and Frank. :flowers:

Thanks for the cream doughnuts Nicolina, excellent.
Pam kept popping round, I think she was really trying to grab a moments peace from Jan's constant talking. I am sure she can hold at least five different conversations at the same time whilst pinning badges on a sixth.
At least the drive down the motorway was peaceful in comparison. ;)
I only saw Graham a few times even though our stalls were side by side, it was so busy.
Managed to arranged to be in the same location next year.
Thanks to all who came, I would try to mention everyone by name but would be sure to miss a few out so better not try.
Grand day see you all at Newcastle.
Cheers

I'm now back home in Dewsbury after an absolutely wonderful day. Not only was it my first Family History Fair but my first visit to York (I know, a Yorkshireman who's never been to York. Half of my life was spent down South though - that's my excuse anyway)
Tut tut Graham, a Yorkshireman who had never visited York  York is the pride of our county! Though, like all interesting and beautiful places it does get very busy now and is a little commercialised, but well worth a future visit to soak up the history. Castle Museum is well worth a visit.
Pleased to hear you had an enjoyable day at the fair, and wish I could have been there. We go on holiday tomorrow and I had packing and other things to attend to :frown:
From what I've read on this thread it sounds like the day was a huge success, and a good time was had by all :smile5:
Back from holiday on the 9th July, see you all then.

Glad you enjoyed your doughnuts but a word of warning, :chef: Michael's already talking about next year and sending a gateau instead !!!!!!!!!!!!! .
But donuts are easier to handle in a crowd. I am soooo tempted to persuade Mr M to make the trip up to york, we could do with a holiday by then..... but we usually go to Cornwall at sometime and we would have to change our plans and..... oh poot!
Nicolina
29-06-2010, 12:10 AM
doughnuts might be easier to handle but Michael loves to have his fun (he's twisted that way). How I've managed to stay married to him for so long I don't know.
