I was following a link on the DUR-NBL list for police info (http://tinyurl.com/8nc8t) and found listed below it a link to this:
INDEX TO OBITUARIES IN THE DURHAM DIRECTORY, 1856 - 1916
(included by permission of University of Durham, Archives and Special Collections)
Among the many listed (and not one relevant to any of my ancestors!) was this little gem:
LANCASTER, John, of Tilley's Yard, Claypath, bricklayer; committed suicide after murdering his wife and son
died 13 August 1914 (Durham Directory, 1915)
You never know what you might find!
