Hi,

I have traced my great-great-grandfather, Abrahamn Garrad, from Suffolk & Essex to County Dublin.
He first appears residing in Dun Loaghaire, and eventually sets up livery stables and veterinary surgery at 32½ Dawson Street (which is still there). There are advertisements in The Irish Times for the stables in 1862 & 1863.

He married a Catherine (Kate) Poynton in 1861 and at least 3 children were born: Abraham (1865) Henry (1867) and Margaret (?). The 2 boys were baptised as Catholic in Kilkenny (presumably Kate's home town?).

Abraham (snr) died on 9th July 1868 of TB, in Tallaght.
Was there a TB infirmary in Tallaght at that time?

Can anyone tell me in which cemetery I might possibly find his gravestone?

Also if anyone has any information at all on the family, I would be very happy to here of it!

Regards

Kevin

Can anyone tell me in which cemetery I might possibly find his gravestone?St Maelruain's is Church of Ireland and the parish covers Tallaght. They may be worth contacting. Not so sure about Catholic churches - you may need to widen the net a bit.

I did find the South Dublin County History (http://www.southdublinhistory.ie/tallaght_intro.htm) website, which has some rather interesting information about Tallaght - complete with some old photographs and maps.

I hope that this helps a little.

As Abraham married a catholic lady, and had his sons baptised catholic, I rather suspect that the catholic churches will be more likely.
He was also disinherited from his father's will - presumably because of the catholic connection?

That leaves a question - why did he die in Tallaght? He appeared to be prosperous, having stables opposite the Mansion House - although he did have a history of bankruptcies!

Always more questions than answers!
