Can anyone enlighten me? This was an occupation in the 1901 census of one of my ansestors

I'd suggest that the second word might actually be Scalder.

Cask Sealer is what leapes at me?

Or maybe Cart Setter - positions cart for loading, a task beneath the average driver - who nips off for a cup of tea, or a pint!

= Malcolm.

Hi Sheila

Could it be "CASK SEALER", the man what bungs in the bung, or pops in the top of the barrel?

If you are sure the first word is Cart then it could be Cart Setter, the person who takes the cart from the driver and shunts it against the loading stage while the driverrests or eats.

However other brewery occupations could fit such as-
Cask Smeller, he smells returned & cleaned casks to ensure they are sweet before the hoops are driven on.
Cask Stacker, or Runner-in, he stacks barrels removed from the drays until further required, takes barrels from the stacks for further use.
Cheers

Hello Guy,
I read the information from the 1901 search for Robert FOLLEY age 40 (Where Born)Hertford, (Admin County)Hoddesdon Urban
(Occupation) 'Cart sealder in Brewery'

Not having viewed the original census return, I wondered if there was such a trade or whether is was a transcribing that had been mis-read

Thank you for your help

Have you considered perhaps looking at the image yourself? Then you could tell us what you think.
