Wedding Extraordinary.- On Tuesday, by the Rev. H. Luxmoore in our Parish Church [probably Barnstaple], John Gibbon, of Bampton, to Maria Couch, of Braunton. The fair Lady having exhibited prognostications of increasing the population, of Braunton, without a visible provision for its maintenance, the Overseers of the Poor thought fit to enquire to whom she was indebted for an acquirement; when, finding it was the now happy bridegroom, whose domicile was at Bampton, a man of brief authority was dispatched to conduct him to the arms of his longing bride. On Friday night, they reached this Town, but to give him a higher zest for the pleasures of a Wedding Day, he was not suffered to be at large, till the Rev. Clergyman, had pronounced him and his blushing bride inseparably one. To expedite the consummation, and avoid the tedious process of publishing their banns, a license was procured, and to honour the ceremony, the gentleman in authority attended them to the altar.

How polite and helpful they were in those days ;) The child was baptised in Braunton on 22.2.1829 - "Willm. Gibbins son of John, labourer, and Maria". Did the couple live happily ever after, did they have any more children?
Can anyone claim them?
Best wishes
Ann
