HANNAFORD (Devon)

I wonder if anyone can help me with my Hannaford family.

I have a John HANNAFORD b. 1802 in Widecombe married to Mary (?)(possibly BEARD) b. 1805 Buckland. He is my 3rd great grandfather. I am trying to sort out who his parents were but unfortunately (according to IGI) there were 3 John's born in Widecombe area in 1802. Widecombe seems to be awash with Hannafords.

There are 8 John Hannaford's baptised between 1797 and 1805. Three of these were baptised in 1802- two on the 1 June 1802. His parents may be been Roger and Joan (Windeatt) Hannaford, but they may be John and Nancy or Samuel and Elizabeth.

Any help would be most grateful.

John Hannaford 1802 and married to Mary Beard 1805, his father was Roger 1771 who married Joan Windeatt 1782 and his father was Roger 1734 who married Joan Smerdon 1730.


One of the other John Hannaford' 1803 was my Great Great Grandfather. who married Elizabeth Dolling 1811.

They were cousins.
