birth certificate-reference checks

i went to order a birth certificate and i wanted a check done on it to see if i got the right person. fill out the form but the check reference button has gone. don't they do checks anymore or have you got to pay £9.25 each time to find the person you are looking for.

Yes.
My understanding is that the option of reference checking is gone--along with the previous price of seven pounds....

As with any retailer they are bound by law to provide goods fit for purpose.
If you state on your order the details that have to apply then they have to send a certificate conforming to those details or refund the full fee.
The reason the partial refund has been dropped is due to it being illegal.

I would suggest that if you want details checked which are not available on the standard on line form you apply by post giving the details you know to be accurate.

AIUI what you should do now is simply to omit the GRO reference and make a basic, standard certificate request.

phone the GRO today, they said the reference checking button has gone. the good news is if i heard this right is to put a little information down like a mothers maiden name and if it don't match they give you the full £9.25 back. the £3 checking fee has gone. please check first before ordering incase i got this wrong
