Joshua and Mary Ann STOCKLEY were bachelor/spinster brother & sister who were the last to run Ivetsey Bank Farm at Bishops Wood. Their father, another Joshua, was one time Church Warden of Blymhill Church - if anyone has any further info on them it would be much appreciated! Many thanks in advance.:smile5:

Hello Jill,

Do you have approximate dates to go with these names, please?

What sort of information are you after? Also, if you could tell us what information you already have (such as census details, birth/death records) then it will prevent anyone from duplicating your efforts.

As Jan has said, we do need to know what information you already have so we don't duplicate. Joshua & Mary Ann appear to be in the 1841/51 & 61 census records of Blymhill. In the 1851 census, Joshua is shown as a Farmer of 312 acres employing 6 Labourers and born c1785/6. From Hugh Wallis's IGI site, there is an extracted baptism at Blymhill on 21 October 1781 of a Joshua STOCKLEY, father Joshua mother Anne plus the baptisms of 5 siblings including that of Mary Ann (or Marianne as she is shown). These baptisms at Blymhill are confirmed on Ancestry's Staffordshire Parish Register entries. There is also a baptismal entry of a Joshua STOCKLEY at Sandon, Staffs in 1744 from the same source which may be relevant to you, plus various siblings, (perhaps your Joshua snr's father??).

Before looking any further, I will wait to see what info you already have.

Dear Janet - so sorry for the late reply to your really helpful email - i've been in hospital! I've got most of the info you've given - i've found out that there is even a listed memorial tomb in blymhill churchyard to joshua snr! What i'm trying to find out is basically more meat on the bones! I cant find out whether they actually owned or rented Ivetsey Bank Farm - after Joshua jnr died, mary ann appears to have given up the farm and 'retired' to premises in Tong (she appears on the Tong census for 1871 - but no actual address is given by the enumerator). Joshua snr appears to have originated from either Standon or Sandon - its been written both ways! Many thanks again best wishes Jill

Hello Jill,

Sorry to hear about the hospital stay and hope that you are feeling okay now.

Have you tried the Land Registry for details about Ivetsey Bank Farm? They maintain and develop the register of title to freehold and leasehold land in England and Wales. (landregistry.gov.uk/)

I also did a bit of googling and found that week ending 7th April 2006, a planning application was approved by South Staffordshire Council for:

Ivetsey Bank Farm,
Watling Street,
Ivetsey Bank,
South Staffordshire
ST19 9QU

"for the change of use of agricultural buildings to form five residential units" So, maybe the council would be able to help?
