trying to fill in details of my father a brummie by birth, left the navy in 1929, joined the war department constabulary 1940, neither of which can help.In between he could have been abducted by aliens, anyone who could point into new lines of research no matter how remote would be appreciated

You dont give much info but that's why you have sent out an SOS. The navy is still your best shot. They would have to have records. Joining, discharge etc. I would follow that up again but perhaps thru different channels. Not sure where you are but you may have to ask for an address you can write to to obtain info.
