As some of you may remember, I ordered 4 certificates on the 1st April.!!.. I still havent received any... I phoned them last week on Thursday, And they said that due to a huge demand before the price change they are running a week over!!... They said that my certs should be sent by the end of the week..
So hopefully they were sent out Friday or Saturday.. So i might receive them tomorrow... Ive been like a big girl on her birthday.. every morning waiting... hoping!!.. lol
Ive ordered 3 death and one marriage... I hope im on the right track !!

I received one this morning ordered on the 30th March despatch date 16th April.

Funny how the "huge demand" doesn't delay them taking the money out of your account! I splashed out and bought a few before the price change and I'm still waiting, and waiting and waiting - I am getting getting quite frustrated by the wait now. Nothing I can do but sit by the letter box and wait.

It's frustrating but spare a thought for those of us who have to wait for the certificates to arrive by plane. Have they taken off yet? I hope they were sent before the flights were grounded!:excl:

Slightly off-topic - the grounded flights give me a good excuse for my cousin's birthday card arriving late. (Should have posted it last Thursday/Friday, but can't remember where I've put it! And I'm sure I bought one!) :biggrin5:
Strictly on-topic, going on the 30th March order/16th April despatch, I've got another week before the arrival of my 'most wanted' certificate. I may have found the death of my great-grandfather. If I have, then there'll be a post in the 'success stories' thread consisting purely of 'jumphappy' smilies. If I haven't, be prepared for lots of :censored: ones instead. :biggrin5:

You are lucky Essex girl. I am still waiting for a marriage and a death cert. They were ordered on 1 April with a despatch date of 12 April.

UK residents waiting for post (such as certificates) should remember that much of the UK post goes by air now instead of by train or lorry.
Unless the Post Office is making alternative arrangements (which is very doubtful) there could be delays caused by the Iceland volcano.

I ordered just one certificate on the 3rd with a despatch date of the 12th - I'm still waiting.

Guy, I'd forgotten about our internal post going by air, that will account for quite a bit of my 'missing' mail, funny though the junk mail still gets through!

If we're :smile5: lucky Margaret, we'll get certificates ordered on the 3rd, with despatch said to be on the 12th, around next Mon/Tues/Wed. I ordered on the 3rd, 4th and 5th, and I know from the order numbers that at one stage orders were being received at something like two a minute.
I know that any delay I have in receiving certificates is simply my own fault in not getting organised and getting them ordered earlier. :biggrin5:
What's even worse, is that I'm now finding that there are a load more certificates that I wished I'd sent for. |sad1| None of them are for 'close' family, but most of them would positively answer queries I have.

I must put in a word of praise for the Sandwell Registrar in West Bromwich. Rrecently I posted an order for a marriage cert.
I posted the order in Wales on Saturday lunchtime - and received the cert on Monday at noon! And it was only £9!
What a fabulous efficient service.

:iagree: Even at the increased cost UK certificates are still about the same price as a NSW transcription but I should have been organized earlier 'cause now there's a backlog. What irks me is that there was one that I thought I should order but I was interrupted from ordering it and then forgot until after the increase date!:pinch:

The good news is that they're on the way. :smile5:
The bad news is either 'the date order received' is not being strictly adhered to, or else the post is totally messed up. (Thinking about it, the poor postmen at Southport must be under a bit of pressure too!)
This morning I received one certificate ordered on the 3rd, one from an order on the 4th, and one from an order on the 5th. :confused5:
Unfortunately the one from the 5th was the wrong certificate (Southport error), and so I spoke to a very nice lady who confessed that she's very pleased that she's not working in production. Though being on the phones isn't a bowl of cherries as it seems some people are getting very irate that they haven't received their certificates. She also said something along the lines of 'a year's work in the past few weeks'. I know from my order numbers that they received 41,561 orders in just under seventeen-and-a-half days, which works out to over 90 an hour. If every order had an average of five certificates, that is one heck of a lot of certificates waiting to be issued.

And of course what we all tend to forget is that although online prices have increased, the effect has been to make it fairer for everyone, as orders sent by post now carry the same price.

The postie has been today and…..no certificates! There does not appear to be a first come, first served basis for producing and despatching them given that some folk ordered and have received certs after I had sent my requests. :frown5:

Certs. with dispatch date April 12 still not received in the USA, but with the price increase rush & Easter, I didn't expect to get them before I left on Fri for Las Vegas. Now the ash has gotten into the equation - so hopefully they will be here on my return. Lucky for the GRO that they have so many valid excuses like Easter & ash to blame, otherwise all they could blame would be their own lack of foresight on the effect of a GBP2.25 price increase. [ Do you think we will get more orders just before the price increase ? Duh - ya think!!]:out:

Don't forget that there have been no planes leaving the UK for six/seven/eight days, so therefore no mail leaving either. That's not the fault of the GRO.

No thread at the moment Adele, but the offer of help is appreciated.
I still have some options to eliminate(including a few more enquiries re the person for whom the death cert I received actually belongs to) before I resort to spending a week in Cornwall reading the small print in the local newspapers. :smile5:

If you ordered online, I think if you read your order confirmation again you will find it says 'Despatch date (Est)'. Not 'despatch date 6th definitely, come hell, high water, wind, flood, or complete overload of system'. :smile5:
I've just checked one of my earlier orders. Ordered 19th March. Order confimation 'despatch date (est)' - 25th March. Despatch date on the 'order' form sent with the certificate says 'despatch date 29th March'.
Factor in two public holidays over Easter, and I reckon your certificates were just in time to miss the last flight out of Heathrow before the shut-down.

I have to say that I'm now wondering if great-granddad did a runner, and so they've disowned him. :smile5:
There is the possibility that he could have drowned at sea - hence not in the 'usual' GRO Index - that's one of the things I have to check.
However, find him I will. Even if it takes me thirty years, like it did someone on another mailing list.

Yipee, my certificate (ordered on the 3rd, despatch date the 12th actually dated the 22nd) arrived today, the downside is that although it is the one that I ordered it isn't right - that will teach me to think before I hit 'send', still I've been lucky so far and haven't sent for many incorrect certs.

I hope that everyone else who is waiting has theirs arrive today too.

I know what you mean I ordered a certificate last night and was informedbythe website it wasn't going to be posted out till 29th May, a whole 24 days after they have taken my money!

I also ordered one at the begining of April which the system informed me wouldn't be sent out till 29th April, well that came and went and I still haven't got it.

2 ordered April 5 - est. despatch date April 12
5 ordered April 25 - est. despatch date April 30
1 ordered April 26 - est. despatch date April 30

The ones I ordered April 1, which had the screwed up pricing I alluded to in an earlier thread, came 10 days ago and at the the correct price - much to my pleasant surprise.

With our 'short summer' in Southern Ontario, I think I'll just enjoy the wait and sup down a couple of cold ones [24 degrees C and nice today]

Another delaying factor that no one has mentioned is holidays by the staff. At this time of year, civil servants need to use up their leave entitlement (vacation days left). Some departments don't let you "carry over" unused days into the next leave year, which is often April to March. So whoever decided to bump the price at the beginning of April didn't think it through. More notice to the family history world would have been good, too. I ordered two certificates 20 April and I'm hoping they'll be here anyday. pw

Have been on vacation since April 22 & upon my return today, 11 of the 14 certs ordered had arrived. Those not yet received are:
+Marriage ordered April 4 - dispatch date April 12 !
+Marriage Ordered April 21 - Dispatch date April 28.
+Death Ordered April 21 - Dispatch date April 28.

Any thoughts about when I should start worrying about the location of the poor little April 12th dispatched marriage? The other 7 certificates ordered the same day are all here.
