Trying to figure out the marriage details of Charles Byrnes 3rd quarter 1844. There are a number of names that go with this including two Margarets. Hoping that it is one of them .Is there a way of working out who married who when there are so many names.....Colin

Have you found Charles in the Censuses to see the Christian name of his wife? If there is more than one possible wife the only way to be absolutely certain is to send for the certificate.

No but have found a Margaret with a Charles W as a Son with another child. Name changes with the Burnes throughout census reports. (Burns, Burnes or Byrnes). No Father present but she is stated as married.....

Is this the Charles Byrnes who is in the printing trade? I found him with Margaret in the 1851 census, with Reginald (4) and Ellen (1). In 1861 there is no sign of Charles, but Margaret, shown as married, is now 36 and a charwoman, with Reginald (13), Ellen (11) and Charles (8), all born in Liverpool, and now living at 6 Clarance Street, West Derby, Liverpool. There is a Charles Byrnes in Liverpool in 1851 with a wife Margaret. I've checked both the Lancs OPC site and the Lancs BMD site but no luck so I think the only way to find out which Margaret he married is to order the certificate.

Hi. Have his Sons marriage certificate 1872 to a Harriet Cooper. States his Father to be an officer in customs. His Son also Charles is a scenic artist, decorator. His marriage was 1898 to Jessie Gorman. He was known as Charles William Metcalfe Burnes. The Metcalfe I think came from living with his Sister Ellen after she had married a Phillip Metcalfe. On an 1871 census it shows a Charles W Burns as a wine merchant. A couple of addresses above there is a Metcalfe. You see the difference in names in 51 and 61 though. One as a byrnes and the other Burns...
