Can anyone help please with some info on (possible!) marriage between
John W Nuttall b 1867 Paddington (railway fireman) and
Eliza A Nuttall b 1868 Finchley London
Marriage date approx. 1887 1889
I think it would have been in London.
Many thanks

There is a GRO entry for June qtr 1887 for a John William NUTTALL in Islington RD. There is no Eliza NUTTALL on the same page.

The 1911 census show's John William's wife Eliza Ann as a widow .She has very kindly filled in the column which asks how many years married and has put 24 years,so marriage would be 1887 but cannot find it.

Can you please confirm that Eliza's maiden name was also NUTTALL?

There's a problem with this entry because the page number (606) is for Lambeth registration district, not Islington. This seems to be a GRO indexing error (not a mistranscription by FreeBMD).

I presume you are interested in the couple appearing on the 1891 census at RG12; Piece: 1; Folio 69; Page 61 (Original TNA Crown Copyright)

You should be able to get Eliza's maiden name from the birth certificate of James Albert NUTTALL
Birth registered Paddington March qtr 1891
Vol 1a page 11

Sorry, not Lambeth, which of course is vol 1d.

But page 606 is outside the range for Islington for that quarter of 1887.

Is NUTTALL the bride's maiden name?

If not, you need to obtain the birth certificate of one of the children to determine her maiden name.

Edit: [Ignore me, I didn't refresh the page]

Eliza gives her place of birth as Finchley so registers with Barnet District. Freebmd has an Eliza Ann ADNAMS at Jun quarter 1868 3a page 145 so your ADAMS name must have come from somewhere and is probably nearly right!

Eliza Ann ADNAMS born Finchley is on the 1881 census (RG11; Piece: 238; Folio: 4; Page: 2 - original TNA Crown Copyright), living in Islington. Looking hopeful!

Because of your help I was able to find the 1881 census link for the Adnams family which found 'my' Eliza Ann living with her mother, siblings and gran. Luckily the gran was the mother's mum so had her maiden name as well! Got as far as great great great grandfather William Adnams who was an agricultural labourer/methodist local preacher. Thank you all so much again for putting me on the right track.
