Holman family of East Hoathly

Hi,
I'm looking for information on Mary Holman, b abt 1792. She married John Sellens (Selling) in East Hoathly on 14 Oct 1814. They emigrated to the US in 1830. John Sellens was the son of John Sellens (b abt 1758). Does anybody have information on John and Mary?

Sorry Mark, but my archives have not produced any hits on your enquiry, although I do have the 1841 / 51 census for East Hoathly, they were in the USA then

Please can you look up any Sellens (or variants thereof); Holman or Colgate in the 1821 census in East Hoathly? I am trying to find a link between John Sellens and Mary Holman and the Colgate family. There is a link between the Holman family and the Colgate family. In 1851 there was a George Holman and Robert Colgate living in East Hoathly. Both were surgeons. In 1881 there was a Henry Colgate Holman living in East Hoathly.

In 1828 John Sellens and wife Mary sold a house and land near Scallowbridge to Robert Colgate of Barham House in 1828.

Had a look through the Sussex marriage Index for your COLGATE/HOLMAN connection & found the following, note the spelling difference in the name HOLMAN & then HOLDEN

This is very likely to be Elizabeth's first marriage, again by licence,
