death certificate which one

I want to send away for my 3rd great grandfather's death certificate. The trouble is there are 2 Thomas hodson's in that area. my thomas was born 1829. on the censuses they have 1830 and the other thomas 1829. one died in 1884 and the other died in 1888. how would i know which one to send for?

I would suggest getting in touch with the registry office for the area concerned quoting what you have found for the two Thomas Holden's, ie. year and quarter, vol & page no, plus what you already know about your person ie occupation, address, wife, children so that they can check which one is relevant to you.

Thank you for the information. i just found the baptism record for that other Thomas hodson 9th november 1828. my Thomas hodson was born 6th july 1829. so the censuses must be adding a year on their birthday.
