John married Ann Halpin somewhere between 1880 and 1888 and had 2 children

There is a marriage on freebdm June 1885 Liverpool 8b211 for Annie Halpin, there are three women listed on this page but only two men. So this could be your marriage - is Liverpool the right area for this family? Do you have the names/dob's for the children?

I think one of the women has the wrong page number and the culprit is probably Rebecca JONES, not Annie HALPIN.

According to Lancashire BMDs, Annie HALPIN married James MAYOR in 1885, and his name appears on the same page in FreeBMD's transcript.

The above is the only Annie HALPIN marriage that I can see in Lancashire 1881-1891.

For what it's worth, I can’t see likely candidates for James MAYOR with a wife Annie in Liverpool in 1891, nor a marriage for John BRENNAN to an Annie. So perhaps Annie subsequently regrouped with John BRENNAN, without actually marrying?

There seems to be quite an age gap between them in 1891, if I have the right couple (RG12; Piece: 2902; Folio 16; Page 26 - reference to record held by TNA).

Have you considered this record from the index?

Ann Halpin and on the same page John Bran could Brennan have been misheard by the vicar or registrar?
Apr - Jun 1886, Liverpool, vol 8b page 16.

Looks like a good find, Lizzy. They married at All Saints, Liverpool (Lancs BMDs).

Thanks Kerry

I beginning to think you could be right, that they are not married, as I have check BMD records from 1878 to 1888. On the 1891 census her name is down as Brennan and on the births of there two children she is down as Brennan and maiden name Halpin.

many thanks for your help
Ricky

Ricky, did you consider Lizzy's suggestion in post #4 above?

Can a John BRAN be found in Liverpool in 1891 with a wife Ann? If not, there's perhaps a chance this might be your couple.

Hi Kerry
No, the is Bran in 1891 Liverpool census. But I have consider what Lizzy said, but doubt is in my mind, due to the fact he is down as Brennan in the census with Ann and the births of his two children as Brennan.

You know yourself if you make a mistake, it can cost you a lot of time and money.
