Just thought I would post the information to those who wanted to find the Irish Civil Registration 1845-1958 Index. I found that the familysearch.org in their pilot "Record Search" site has added Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes 1845-1958. It's free and I was really glad to find it. It's in text format, no digital images. If you go to: http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=home and browse through their collections, go to the Ireland collection and click on that to do a search. The index includes births 1864-1958; marriages, 1864-1958 and deaths 1864-1958. The interesting things about the death registration is that it has the estimated birth year and place, age, and some instances the parent name, so that was really helpful to me. I just did a general surname search and a certain location and I had a lot of names come up that were helpful. Maybe this information is somewhere on the forum, but I didn't see it. If it is, my apologies for duplicating the information. I'm just excited to find this collection to assist in my Irish research.

Did you know you can access the Irish 1911 census (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/)on line for free too?

Yes, but only recently, and that was only because I saw it by way of the forum, other than that I wouldn't have known. Thank you Sue for your caring comment. I'm sure others will benefit.
