Could someone advise if this census has a name index. I have just purchased the CD's and it says that name indexes are produced but not if it applies to this census of Chesahire.
My reason for asking is that in my trawling through the CD's I am amassing data that may be useful to searchers if a name index does not exist.

Hi Mike

There does'nt seem to be much on the Cheshire 1861 Census. If your interest is in Kelsall Township there is an index at Don Dicksons' site. (part of RG9-2628)

The two Cheshire FHS sites don't seem to have any recent publications of Census material (Publications pages updated in 2003 & 2004) and only 3 sets of fiche available.

Manchester Local Archives might be interested in your extracted data, perhaps.

http://www.manchester.gov.uk/libraries/arls/index.htm

Don't know what is available on the FFHS pay-per-view site.

Thank you Frank for your info. Seems that it is worthwhile me continuing extracting the data.

Hi Mike
The online 1861 census published this month is fully indexed for name & place, although there are inevitably lots of mistranscriptions, so what you are gathering may still be useful to someone else.

post the names and details (in a new thread) of the person that you are looking for and someone will be able to look it up for you.
