Could anyone help please.

I've got Harriet Brewer, born 1790 + - a year. I have found her Christening record but can't find her birth index and can't understand why not.

She was born 1790 give or take a year, Buxted, Sussex.
She was baptized 15th May 1838.
She married John Moon 11th December 1821.

If anyone has any ideas where I can look for the birth index number, I'd be really grateful.

Thank you.

Sue

Civil registration started in 1837 (in England) and before that date we have to resort to church records. If an actual date of birth wasn't shown in the baptism register (sometimes they were, sometimes they won't), I'm afraid there's little else to be done.

I'm a bit puzzled by some of those dates, surely she wasn't baptised after getting married?

Hi Sue, but putting it simple, you won't. Births/Marriages and Deaths were not registered before 1837.

To get some idea of when a person was born you need their baptism record from Parish records.
To get their marriage the record from Parish registers.
Their deaths you need burial records again from Parish Records.

I note from your info that she was not baptised until 1838, do you have any proof that this was her, as it is a long time after her birth, and not around the time of her marriage, which would have made more sense to me.

Just a thought, have you looked at the morman site. I know not all of the imformation is correct, but at least it is a start and can point you in the right direction.

Thank you very much for your replies. How stupid I am, I should have remembered that records didn't start until 1837 in England.
Sorry for the wrong info on the baptism.

Thank you again Peter and Sue, I will check the mormon site.
